After our recent post about upcoming Canon USA price increases, CPW readers have asked about the expected impact to prices on refurbished items from the Canon USA store. The logic goes, since refurbs are already in the USA, they wouldn’t be impacted by the 10% tariff, and thus no price increase, right?
Unfortunately, we expect Canon USA refurbished prices to also increase, in concert with any price/MSRP increase on brand new gear. The reason is simple: refurbished pricing is formulaic, with recent refurbished items pegged to a price of 90% of the price of brand new. For example, the refurbished EOS R5 Mark II has a regular price of $3,869.10, which is exactly 90% of the MSRP of $4299.
Canon can still choose to discount from the “regular refurbished price”, and usually do so to match instant savings for brand new items, or during refurb sales. For example, the refurbished EOS R5 Mark II is currently discounted $270 to $3599 to match a $300 savings brand new ($3999) for the camera.
