New Canon Instant Savings: Prices Went Down (?), R6 Mark II $1899

Canon USA started a new instant savings period today (lasting until May 4th). Prices surprisingly went down, with the rebate being renewed on most items (and increased by $100 on some popular cameras and lenses below). Notably, the EOS R6 Mark II is now $1899.00, and the EOS R5 Mark II + BG-R20 battery grip bundle is still $3999.00 at B&H.

Note, this doesn’t rule out a future tariff-induced price increase, which can still be applied independent of the instant savings schedule. The last we heard, this is still coming.

Instant savings were improved on the following items:

Canon Refurb Sale: 8×20 IS, 10×20 IS, 12×32 IS Binoculars

The Canon Store started a refurb sale, but the only items discounted are refurbished binoculars. Check out our refurbished stock tracker for a list of all items available, or the refurb livestream to watch the restocks. Refurbished items from the Canon Store come with a 1-year Canon USA warranty.

Canon Canada Also to Increase Prices — No, Not Because of Tariffs

The USA is not the only geography with upcoming Canon price increases — we can now confirm that Canon Canada has also instituted an across-the-board pricing change that is scheduled to take effect on April 25th, one week from today.

Unlike the situation in the USA, tariffs are not to blame for the Canadian price hike; the Canadian pricing change was decided well before the US tariff announcements. It’s suspected that the Canadian dollar’s progressive weakness versus the Japanese yen over the past year is the primary factor for the Canadian price increase.

The same message goes to our Canadians readers: now is the time to stretch and buy any Canon items that you expect to need in the near future.

How Will Canon Price Increases Impact Refurbished Prices?

After our recent post about upcoming Canon USA price increases, CPW readers have asked about the expected impact to prices on refurbished items from the Canon USA store. The logic goes, since refurbs are already in the USA, they wouldn’t be impacted by the 10% tariff, and thus no price increase, right?

Unfortunately, we expect Canon USA refurbished prices to also increase, in concert with any price/MSRP increase on brand new gear. The reason is simple: refurbished pricing is formulaic, with recent refurbished items pegged to a price of 90% of the price of brand new. For example, the refurbished EOS R5 Mark II has a regular price of $3,869.10, which is exactly 90% of the MSRP of $4299.

Canon can still choose to discount from the “regular refurbished price”, and usually do so to match instant savings for brand new items, or during refurb sales. For example, the refurbished EOS R5 Mark II is currently discounted $270 to $3599 to match a $300 savings brand new ($3999) for the camera.

Last Chance to Save 31% on Peak Design’s Roller Pro: Tariff Protected

Peak Design’s Roller Pro Kickstarter campaign has been a smashing success — accruing over $12M in pledges — but it is ending very soon (Friday at 3 AM ET). This would be your last chance to save $185 or 31% on an impressive new roller.

The best part of this price is: it’s locked-in and won’t be impacted by any current or future tariffs. According to their FAQ: “… we’ve made the decision to not add any additional tariff charges to your pledges. The price you pay on Kickstarter (plus any applicable local VAT/GST/tax, charged in your post-campaign fulfillment survey) will be the price you pay, regardless of what happens with tariffs between now and the time we fulfill rewards.”

Check out the Peak Design Roller Pro Kickstarter campaign, but please do so before Friday at 3 AM ET!

As with all Kickstarter campaigns, there is always a risk that creators will not be able to fulfill the rewards of the pledge. The company behind this campaign has a history of delivering successful campaigns, so the risk is lower (but never zero). Pledge at your own risk!

Canon USA Price Increase Within 1-2 Weeks: 7-8% Hike Expected

Several Canon USA authorized dealers have notified their customers about upcoming price increases from Canon and other photography brands. One dealer announced: “Due to recent tariff increases on imported goods, we’re facing higher costs and prices will be going up within the next 1-2 weeks.”

The most likely dates for a Canon USA price increase would either be April 21st or April 28th. Both the dealer price as well as the end-consumer MSRP will be increasing. We’re hearing (but have not yet confirmed) that the magnitude of the increase will be approximately 7-8%, and be across the entire Canon camera and lens line-up.

In the apt words of another dealer, “if you’ve been eyeing something special, now’s the time — order soon to lock in current pricing”.
